King George the Grape
just got into really good shape

He wanted to get some sun...
So he went to the beach
to have some fun

King George and his Queen
Never put on sunscreen

They played all day in the sun
Until the day was done

Once King George got home, he
noticed a spot on his dome(head).

George went to the doctor, and heard the big
shocker. He asked for an answer and the Doctor
said Cancer (Melanoma effects the (epidermis) top
and (dermis) middle layers of the skin).

The Doctor said "King George if you want to go
out in the sun with your Queen you better wear
sunscreen." "Sunscreen protects your skin from
UV radiation produced by the sun."

The Doctor said "King George you need to know
that you have 3 skin layers that need to be
protected. The first layer of the skin is the
epidermis. Under that layer is a second layer
called the dermis. There is a third layer under the
other two called the hypodermis."

King George said "How does my skin keep me safe?" The
Doctor said "Good question, Skin and homeostasis work
together to help the body maintain a constant internal
environment. Temperature regulation done by skin and
homeostasis when the body is cold. Signals sent to the body to
tell it to raise its temperature. The body then begins shivering.
This is how yous skin and homeostasis work together to keep
your body safe.

So he had the spot removed to get back in the
groove. King George is now Melanoma free and
happy as can be and also wearing a lot of
sunscreen.

Melanoma is the most dangerous form of skin
cancer, a malignancy of the melanocyte, the cell
that produces pigment in the skin. Melanoma is
most common in people with fair skin, but can
occur in people with all skin colors. Most
melanomas present as a dark, mole-like spot that
spreads but unlike a mole, has an irregular border.
The tendency toward melanoma may be inherited,
and the risk increases with overexposure to the
sun and sunburn. Hemostasis will try to respond to
immediate threats that the epidermis has been
compromised.

Most melanomas present as a dark, mole-like
spot or it may look like a bruise that isn't
healing or show up as a brown or black streak
under a fingernail or toenail. It spreads unlike
a mole, has an irregular border. The tendency
toward melanoma may be inherited, and the
risk increases with overexposure to the sun
and sunburn. Melanoma will start in the
epidermis and dermis. The it gets to the close
by tissue in the hypodermis and depending
how it spreads it will get to the liver.

Kids, wear sunscreen
so you can stay cancer
