Christopher Columbus was born in Italy in 1451, and
had a childhood like anyone else his age. But unlike the
rest of his peers Christopher developed a strong
passionate bond with the ocean. Even when he was a
young boy he knew he wanted to be just like his father
and spend his life sailing the seven seas of the great
ocean blue.

By the time he was 30 he had sailed the entire coast of
Europe, yet this was not enough for the driven young
explorer. At this same time there were many problems
dealing with trade within Europe and Asia, which led to
the age of exploration against the developed nations.
One of their main objectives was to find an alternative
route to India in order to trade spices and other goods.
It seemed as if the only other alternative was to travel
there around the most southern part of Africa and into
the Indian Ocean. Thus, this was Christopher
Columbus's chance to fulfill his childhood dreams of
becoming the best explorer of his time, yet he had
many setbacks.

A journey of such vast proportion had
never been attempted, therefore there
was much skepticism of Christopher's
idea. This made it very difficult to
raise funds for his trip, his own
country denied him money as well.

Experts at the time also believed that it was impossible
to carry sufficient food and water for the duration of the
long trip. These same experts also deemed his
estimation of the journey far too low. Yet besides these
many setbacks he was luckily able to to reach a deal
with the king and queen of Portugal.

Christopher then spent the next 6 years
of his life collecting money, planning
out and preparing his journey of a
lifetime. He took the time to pick
only the best, brightest, and bravest
men to take along with him on his
journey. And on August 3rd 1492 he left
spain with 3 ships: The Nina, the
pinta, and the Santa maria.

Him and his crew spent 5 gruesome weeks traveling the
Atlantic Ocean. They experienced many storms and
sickness ran rampant among the crew. Suddenly on the
morning of October 12th they spotted what they
believed to be India and the columbus and his men
rejoiced!
