Today was the big day . It was Adrian's first 

day of school , he was so scared. After all it 

would be his first day without his mother by his 

side . His belly began to hurt more and more as 

he worried about being away from home .

Adrian was so scared that he ran and hid under 

his bed , hoping his mom would not find him . 

"Adrian , where are you ?" As his mother 

walked into his room she heard a small voice 

coming from under the bed . "I'm not going , 

nobody will like me , and i want to stay home 

with you ."

Adrian's mother got him to come out from 

under the bed and explained to Adrian that all 

children must go to school , and that he would 

do lots of neat crafts , and make lots of new 

friends .

Adrian agreed he should give it a chance , after 

all his mommy had never lied to him before , so 

he took her hand, grabbed his lunchbox and 

headed for the bus stop .

As Adrian climbed the steps of the bus he 

began to feel very nervous , but he knew he 

needed to be a big kid like the other children , 

so he picked a seat , waved goodbye to his 

mother and off he went .

As he got off the bus, the school   looked like a 

huge castle . Adrian stared at the building , as 

he watched the other children go inside . Adrian 

was very scared   , but he took a deep breath , 

thought about his mother’s words and walked 

inside . 

Inside the halls   was like a maze he had walked 

through in the fall with his momma . Adrian 

walked down the hall and found his classroom 

with his teacher waiting. “Hello, what’s your 

name ,” said the nice lady . Adrian stumbled for 

his words .. “My-My-My name is Adrian .” “Well 

hello Adrian , I am Ms. Williams .” The smile on 

Ms. Williams face made Adrian feel more at 

ease . 

A curly red haired girl pulled out a seat . “you 

can sit here if you want.” “ok, said Adrian ,” as 

he sat down . Adrian had made a new friend 

and her name was Penny . 

Adrian and Penny followed each other 

everywhere , from the art table, to story time , 

and on the way to lunch .

They sat by each other at lunch and opened the 

lunch boxes their mothers had packed for them 

. “ I will trade you my pudding for your chips,” 

smiled Penny , as she held the pudding out in 

front of her . Adrian grinned and accepted, as 

he said,   “You’re my best friend!”
