Once upon a time, there was a husband and wife named Harry and Helen. They lived in New York City and had a son named Jimmy.

Jimmy was supposed to be in the first grade, but bad people made him work even as a young child. This made Jimmy feel scared and upset because he was not sure how to work or why he had to do it.

Helen stayed at home and took care of Jimmy and Harry when they returned. She wanted to work very badly but was upset because she was not allowed.

Harry worked in a rug factory and was very sad. Harry was sad because he was hungry, thirsty, and tired all the time. The people at Harry's work were mean to him and did not treat him and his friends fairly.
