A long time ago people were not how they are today. Back than some people were cruel and very mean to black people. They despised all of them just because their skin was not white. White people never wanted to share anything with them and never wanted to talk to them. Black people would get beat up and go to jail for doing absolutely nothing. It was extremely un fair and someone had to do something about it.

On January 15 1929 a black baby boy was born. His name was Marin Luther King Jr. Martin was born in Atlanta Georgia. Martin Luther King Jr's grandfather and dad were both pastors at churches. Who would ever known that this little boy would grow up to be one of americas "heroes".

When Martin was growing up a lot of white people would make fun of him. They never liked him and he knew it was because he was black. When Martin went to college in Boston and Pennsylvania which is considered north, he realized how there was not as much racism. Everyone was more accepting. The black people and the white people mixed more freely in the North. It was not as bad as the South.

Martin Luther King Jr. was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi who led Indian free from the British. He was also inspired by Rosa Parks. When she wouldn't give up her seat on the bus. This lead Marin to become the leader in the Bus Boycott. The Bus Boycott was all the african americans sticking up for themselves so they can sit wherever they like on the bus. This was a very dangerous thing for martin to do because it put his family in great risk. After some hard work they finally did it! Montgomery lifted the law. There was no more segregated transportation.

Martin wanted no more segregation. He did not want to be limited from things just because he was black so he started protesting with other people. They were called non violent protests because it was all about peace and their words not physically fighting. King protested at a restaurant and sat in the white section and refused to leave his seat. He went to jail for that and soon got realesed. Than he got arrested for a traffic conviction and that was not okay. The president John F. Kennedy found out and tried helping King out. King was now a national figure.

In spring 1963 Martin organized a demonstration in downtown Birmingham. Martin and some of his followers/ supporters were jailed but this event captured so much nationwide attention. On August 28 1963 the March of Washington happened. More than 200,000 people attended this historic event. The March of Washington was a massive demonstration on the nations capital. This was the day Martin made his extremely famous speech "I have a dream", saying how someday everyone will be together in unity without no judgement.
