This is a story of a little boy who has been deaf ever since birth. He is sad about this. One day, in class at school, he meets a boy named Matthew. He has hearing loss too. Matthew teaches Joel all the good things about being deaf and Joel's spirits are lifted. Later on in the future, Joel is in his thirties and sees a kid that was deaf pouting on a park bench.
