Wally didn't smile much and so the other turtles assumed that he was sad or in a bad mood. It didn't help that he was afraid to make eye contact with the other turtles. "What's wrong Wally?" they'd ask. He'd always say, "Nothing." He looked so serious all the time but actually he had a very silly sense of humour that he only shared with his close friends.

When he was just a little turtle, Wally's parents noticed that their boy was different from the other hatchlings. He was very quiet, rarely spoke, and had trouble making friends. They worried about him but they shouldn't have. There was nothing wrong with him. He was just a shy, thoughtful little turtle.

Wally was a completely different turtle when he was with his friends. He would laugh and joke and talked a blue streak. It was hard to believe that this was the same Wally who would hide in his shell anytime the teacher called his name in class. But hey, not everybody in the world can be a big talker. The world also needs good listeners.

There were times when Wally's parents feared that he spent a little bit too much time alone. Thinking is always good but overthinking isn't good for you. As much as he enjoyed the peace and quiet of his own thoughts, Wally was becoming reclusive. Being alone made Wally happy. Or did it? He began avoiding his friends preferring to get lost in his own thoughts.

Wally was actually a talented writer, incredibly smart, a gifted public speaker, and despite his bashful nature, a wonderful singer. He would sing songs and play guitar with his friends Flo and Eddie and they even formed a band. For such a quiet turtle, Wally could really belt out a tune.

"Hey! Look at that poster. We could win that contest no sweat" Flo raved. Wally was nervous about singing in front of other turtles. He was fine with small groups but felt shy when he was with a crowd. "You'd really impress that cute girl you like" added Eddie. That made Wally a little embarrassed so he started to run away. Well, it took a while but eventually he did leave.
