Once upon a time, there was a young mermaid named Merida. She had fallen in love with a human prince. She had always wanted to see the humans up close, but her father told her not to because humans killed his wife, long ago. Merida loved the prince so much that she decided to talk to her father about it, even though she had tried before. It took her hours to muster up the courage to talk to him about this.

When she got back home, she asked her father if they could talk. They sat down on some rocks, and Merida asked if she could go see the humans up close. Her father said no, so Merida tried to persuade him by saying it could be like a school project. Every time she tried, her dad would shoot her ideas down, one by one. When her father left her alone, Merida decided that only one person could help her. The sea witch, Medusa.

The journey to Medusa's cave was hard. It was so far off from the mermaid kingdom, because she had tried to curse the kingdom and was banished. To get there, Merida had to swim from schools of fish, avoid muddy quicksand, go through an obstacle course of jelly fish, and swim past whirlpools. It was the hardest journey she had ever made, and probably will ever make. Finally, she saw Medusa's cave.

When Merida reached Medusa's cave, Medusa already knew she was coming by looking into her crystal ball, so she greeted Merida at the door. When she asked Merida what she was here for, Merida told Medusa she wanted legs. Medusa was shocked. Medusa thought she could get something out of this. She said she would give Merida legs in exchange for her voice. Medusa also said that if Meridas prince didn't kiss her after three days, Merida would belong to Medusa. Merida was so desperate, she agreed. Then, Medusa cast a spell, and Merida was sent to land, with legs.

When Merida got her legs, she was whisked away to the shore, and even better, the prince was there. When he saw her, he asked her where she came from. Merida tried to talk, but she couldn't. When the prince realized she couldn't talk, he asked Merida to come with him to the palace. Of course, Merida accepted.
