Once upon a time, there was a couple who were about to have a baby. The woman, during her pregnancy, had been looking across the street at an enchantresses garden. She saw some lovely Asparagus, and begged her husband to go and get her some. But her husband was very afraid of the witch, and to do this, he would have to steal her favorite vegetable: ASPARAGUS!!! His wife told him if she couldn't have the Asparagus, she would die. So he decided to do it, even though he was scared

So, he snuck over to the enchantresses garden and took some of her Asparagus. When he came home, his wife was delighted with what he had brought her. She enjoyed the Asparagus so much, that she asked him to bring her more. He wanted his wife to be happy so much, so he snuck over again, with the same results as the first time. His wife loved it so much, that she begged her husband to bring some one more time, and he agreed. He snuck over, grabbed some of the Asparagus, turned to go home, but someone was blocking his way.

The Enchantress was standing right next to him. He was so scared, he dropped the Asparagus. The Enchantress was FURIOUS when she saw the man in her garden. She said to him, "How dare you take my Asparagus!!! For this, you will die!". But he told her about his wife, who was about to have a baby. The witch was glad to hear this. She told him she would let him go with as much Asparagus as he wanted, on one condition. As soon as the baby was born, it would be hers. The man was scared, but he agreed, just happy to escape alive.

In the next two weeks before the baby was born, the man tried to forget about his promise to the Enchantress. When the day came that the baby was born, the Enchantress suddenly appeared in the room. She snatched the baby and disappeared without a word, and the parents were devastated. The mother wanted to call the police, but her husband wouldn't let her, and then he told why. They were so upset about their daughter, they couldn't handle it. Meanwhile, the Enchantress took her far away.

The Enchantress decided to call the girl Aspar, after the Asparagus her father stole. She made the girl work hard day after day in the Enchantresses hidden garden, as she disguised herself as a old women. Aspar's hair would grow at such an alarming rate, that the Enchantress thought to herself, "The girl is getting too pretty, that some boy is going to fall in love with her and take her away." So the enchantress decided to hide Asper in a hidden tower in the forest.

For the next few years, the Enchantress kept Aspar locked in a tower with no doors. Whenever the Enchantress wanted to get inside, she would call, "Aspar, Aspar, let down your hair." And a braid of black hair would come tumbling down for her to climb. Other than the Enchantress, Asper had no company and nothing to do, so she would spend her time cleaning the tower, and singing. (Mostly Singing and just a little cleaning) One day, a prince heard the singing and was determined to find the girl whom the voice belonged to.

The next day, the prince went out to find the girl. He herd singing again and followed it to a tall tower with no doors. There he saw a lovely maiden it the towers only window. He was about to go over and greet her, when he heard something. The witch was back! The prince watched the lady go to the tower and call, "Asper, Asper, let down your hair!". Then, the longest black braid he had ever seen fell down, and the witch climbed it. When she came out and left, the prince walked over and tried the trick for himself. "Asper, Asper, let down your hair!" He called. The black braid once again fell down, and he climbed it

When Asper saw that it was not the witch, she cried out in fear! The prince told her not to be afraid. He told her he had herd her singing, and had to meet her. She was happy to see someone other then the witch for a change. They talked for a while then Asper asked him if there was any way he could help her get out. He first thought they could cut her hair of and use it as a rope, but she wouldn't do it. She told him to visit her every evening and bring a ball of silk, and then she would weave a ladder from it. He agreed, and then they started making a ladder.
