Rani was one of the leading figures of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Her father worked at the Peshwa court so Rani had more independence than most women. At age 7 Rani was married to Raja Newalker and she became queen of Jhansi.

In 1851 Rani gave birth to her son Damodar who later died at 4 months.

Her husband, Gangadhar Rao, died of a broken heart. After his death.

Rani took the role as Queen for Jhansi.

British Empire tried to give Rani an annual pension of 60,000 so they can take over the land. She decided not to give her land to the British. Rani assembled 14,000 rebels and organized an army for the defence of the city.
