The Battle of Marathon started August 490 BC, it was a battle between the Persians and the Athens. This battle was one of the earliest recorded battles. The Athens ended up winning the Battle of Marathon.

The Battle lasted for a total of 10 years, one of the most common things that happened in the Battle was that one of the Greek men named Pheidippides who was fighting ran 26 miles in thirty six hours to shout "Rejoice, we conquer" then dropped dead.

Around 6,400 Persians died and around 192 Athenians died in this battle. The surviving Persians headed back to the sea toward the Athens.
