The ancient people believed that the lives and destinies of mortals were determined by three sister-goddesses, named, The Fates. They were Clotho, Lachesis, Atropos.
They spun out a thread called the thread of life; it symbolized the life of a human being from their birth to their death.
The Fates divided their jobs between them. Clotho would wound the flax around the stick or spindle,
Then, her sister Lachesis, spun out the thread of life.
Finally, Atropos, would endlessly cut the thread apart, which meant the end of one's life.
The moral force of the universe is represented by the Fates.
