Once Upon a time...in a land far, far away (Europe) lived the Holy Roman Emperors

In a time period of 1500 AD, the emperors were very weak and wanted to hold their empire together as one country but could not do so, so their empire was divided into many small countries

Some of these countries were Catholic,who worshiped the church while others were Protestants who didn't believe the pope should have all the power

The evil Holy Roman Emperor, Ferdinand III wanted to reunite the empire by having all the control over small German states and force them to be Catholics taking away their freedom

However, none of these rulers could pay their soldiers to fight so they payed themselves by storming into villages and harming the innocent people

Many people went hungry and fell ill (not the kind sick chicken noodle soup can fix)

The Protestant Bohemians decided to fight back against the catholics in 1618-1625

The election of Ferdinand II caused the innocent Bohemian protestants to fear for their religious freedom

Both the Bohemian and Ferdinand weren't strong enough to stand aloneso Ferdinand called upon Philip IV of Spain and the Bohemians called upon Frederick V
