A is for Absolute Monarchy. A lot of countries during the time had absolute monarchies. An absolute monarchy had a King/Queen at the head who had full control of the government.

B is for Beccaria. He believed laws were created to preserve social order, not to avenge crimes. He thought torture should never be used and everyone deserves a speedy trail

C is for Copernicus. He created the Heliocentric theory, but it wasn't published until he was almost dead.

D is for Divine right. Some rulers during the Enlightenment thought their right the rule came from God Himself.

E is for the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was a movement based on reason and individualism instead of tradition.

F is for Francis Drake. Sir Francis Drake was the second in command during the Spanish Armada with Elizabeth I.

G is for Geocentric. The Catholic Church believed for a long time that everything else in the universe revolved around the Earth. Anyone who went against this during the Enlightenment were put on house arrest for the rest of their lives.

H is for Heliocentric. The Heliocentric theory was the idea created by Copernicus that the Sun is the center of the universe.

I is for Immanuel Kant. A German philosopher who is considered the central figure of modern philosophy.

J is for Justice. During this time laws were taken very seriously- especially religious ones. Many people died for breaking the law in this time period.

K is for Kepler. He proved Copernicus right and found the math for the ellipses our solar system moved in.

L is for Louis XIV. He called himself the Sun King because he thought of himself as a source of light for his subjects. He abused his wealth and caused France to go deep in debt.

M is for Montequieu. He believed in separation of powers so no single group or person could be in total charge of the government. During the Enlightenment many countries didn't have any separation of power.

N is for Natural Law. This was the idea that there should be principles in government.

O is for Old Science. Before the Scientific revolution people believed in common sense and ancient beliefs.

P is for King Philip II. King Philip tried to invade England with the Spanish Armada but failed.
