Sodium and chlorine were good friends. they had a lot of good things going for both of them. but they were jealous of the group of cool kids- the noble gases.
One day when they were talking, Sodium told chlorine that she wished she was more like the noble gases. "you know chlorine, I only have one valence electron. I really wish i had 8 like those cool noble gases!"

"I know!" Said Chlorine, "I'm so close with 7, but I just can't get 8!" As the elements were talking, Bond man appeared to save the day! "why don't you elements get together and create an ionic bond. Then you'll be following the octet rule, too!"

"forming an ionic bond is easy," said Bond Man. "Sodium, since you only have one valence electron, why don't you give it to chlorine and you both can become sodium clhoride?"

So sodium gave chlorine her valence electron and together and became sodium chloride. together, they were able to do many things like flavoring food and healing wounds.

SO bond man was happy, thinking he had done his job for the day. until... he heard oxygen picking on the hydrogen twins again!
