Jumper was a kangaroo who lived in the
outback’s of Australia. He loved his home,
his friends and his family. In fact Kangaroo
Jumper almost had the perfect life, but he
was missing one thing.

No matter how hard he tried,
he couldn’t jump! Jumper was
forced to waddle behind his
friends and family while they
leapt ahead of him bouncing up
and down on their feet:
bounce, bounce, bounce.

Everyone told jack that he
would learn how to jump
someday, but he wanted to
jump now. Every single
one of the other kangaroos
knew how to jump. Jack
felt like he was the worst
kangaroo in the entire
outback.

Jack decided that the only thing to do was to
go out on his own and learn how to jump. So
one morning, he set off walking. Jumper could
hear the loud noise his big feet made: thump,
thump, thump.

He went into a large field, bent his knees and
tried to leap. Ouch! Jumper fell flat on his face!
He tried again, and again, and again but he
couldn't get off the ground. The next time he tried
to leap, he heard a tiny scream as he hit the
ground.
“Ouch, get off me!”

When he looked down, Kangaroo saw a little
cricket, laying on the ground. He helped the
cricket up and apologized for falling on top of him.
“I’m sorry,” said Jumper, “I’m just really upset
because I feel worthless. I’m a kangaroo that
can’t jump.”

“Boy! I’ve been watching you try and try and
try. What you need is confidence! Every time
you fall, you need to get back up strong!”
Jumper listened to the little cricket, even
though he didn’t think the cricket knew what he
was talking about, since he was so small.

The cricket then began to jump ahead of
Jumper, “C’mon! Jump with me!” he said.
“I’ll try!” replied the kangaroo as he tried to
jump once more.

In no time, Jumper was hopping just like all
the other kangaroos in the outback! He felt
the wind in between his ears, and his feet
were prepared to catch his weight as he came
down.
