William Glasser's main work...
Choice Theory
William Glasser developed the Choice Theory which says that we are all motivated by our internal feelings, not by rewards or punishments.
He says we have five basic needs:
- To love & belong
- To be powerful
- To be free
- To have fun
- To survive

The Quality World

Each of us develops a unique world, which is the source of all of our motivation. It focuses on nurture and how we interact with the most important people and aspects in our life.
Example: I love my family.
Reality & Perception
We all live in the "real world", but what really matters is how we perceive reality. Everyone acts/thinks differently because we all perceive reality in our own ways.
Example: One person may think that Lady Gaga is a good singer, but someone else might think she is terrible.
The Comparing Place
We constantly compare two different things: our perception of reality and what we want. The ultimate goal is for our reality to match up with our needs.
Example: A teacher assigns class work and the students understand all of the material so the teacher feels it proved to be a positive way to teach her students, and decides to continue this strategy.
