Salem Village was a fast growing farm area on the northern edge of Salem. It included farmers, who provided for their family separately from Salem town.

Salem town was the wealthier of the two areas. It made its money from ship building and fishing. And the finished products were traded.

A reverend was brought in by Putnam named Parris, and he tried to enforce the religious he was to told to spread. But since the village could see past these scams, they quickly disagreed with his teachings.

In fall of 1691 villagers refused to provide Parris with fireword due to his over bearing religious techniques. The committee of 5 oversaw matters related to the church, and begin to quickly catch on to the town's motives.
Putnam, realized how valuable the village would be to him, since it could provide him more land than those above him. He didn't think of the villagers as people, but as pawns of his lust for power, and he quickly tried to win over the village

Salem village was in term oil and eventually when people of the village denied giving away their land, they became accused of being associated with witchcraft.

Salem Town was extremely profitable, and they took advantage of their power, but the village was small, but tamed and able to live and prosper with what they had.
