DiMaggio Deliverable
The Role of Job Readiness and Education in Generational Poverty
Granite State College, 2017

In 2015, 43.1% of Americans were under the national poverty level
That same year, 50% of children under the age of 18 had parents that had no college degree.

Many studies show strong links between an increase in education and/or job readiness skills and an increase in income.

It is believed that by providing either of these at low or no-cost to those in the cycle of generational poverty, that cycle has much higher odds of being broken.

Due to these studies, many initiatives have begun over the last several decades to address the need for obtainable education and job skills training.
The remainder of this work will provide information on these many programs.
Federally Funded Initiatives
Job Corps- Program for young adults, age 16-24. Intensive, on campus job skills training, certifications, and education is provided. A small living allowance is provided along with room and board. Participants walk out more prepared and marketable for the work force.
