To: The most caring husband in all the world, we never would've made it with out you. May God rest your soul.

When our family first arrived in our new home the great state of California

The year was 1928 when my husband, Nick, and and I decided to move our family across the country. Times were better then.
(Nick and I celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary)

My husband Nick was a well educated man, despite the challenges he faced growing up he persevered and managed to graduate from Stetson University at the top of his class.

After graduating he move to NY so he could go into advertising. he was quite good at what he did and made a very decent living. (here some of his ads)

In 1921, June 11, was the day we first met. an exactly 2 years later we were married, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Well the best thing besides the birth of our children, Wil and Elli are the joys of our lives
Ellois Joyce born sept. 18th 1927 William James born oct. 10th 1925

Those were the good times the times when we thrived, But Nick told me that things went lookin so good and we needed to get out quick. And he was right in 1928 nick and I took everything we had and moved across the the country to California we took all of our savings out of the bank and headed west. looking back it may have been what saved us.

It was October 29th 1929 when the stock market crashed, I remember it like it was yesterday. Every since we had moved to California Nick was having trouble finding a permanent job, lucky we had all of our savings to keep us going... or so I thought.

As things got worse, i wondered what was going to happen to the lot of us. It seemed as though president Hoover had no real solution to this tremendous problem causing unemployment, poverty and hunger throughout america. Times were especially hard.

Wth no one really makin a stable in come everyone was doing their best to support their families. my husband went everywhere looking for work and doin odd jobs for anybody that was able to pay whether that be in money or food. I even took up to findin work where ever I could, sewed things, and even started selling eggs from a chicken that somehow found its way into our family no doubt Wil and Elli convinced us, but those eggs were keeping us alive. There is only so much you can do but we were one of the families lucky enough to have an actually home whereas most of our town had lost everything and were livin in hoovervilles. our home wasn't much but we were thankful to have it.
