Once, there was a man named Thomas Edison. He was in his workshop and he was working on this telegraph transmitter when he saw how the tape inside moved and it sounded like a voice. That is when he decided to work on finding a way to repeat someone's voice to play over and over again.

The first phonograph looked like the end of a trombone on a stand.

One crazy thing is that the first thing to ever be recorded on the phonograph was “Mary had a little lamb”.

Because of this invention this sparked the american recording and music industry because this made it so music makers could record their things to save.

The invention consisted of tinfoil coated cylinders with 2 needles, One for playback and one for recording. When you speak into the mouthpiece, The sound vibrations of your voice would be  indented onto the cylinder by the recording needle. Then the playback needle plays the recorded message back.

There was a lot of risk to try to create this invention because Thomas Edison did not know if people were even going to want this product. Thomas knew that it was not for certain that this would be a hit but we knew he had to take the risk.
