I dedicate this book to Harriet Tubman.

Araminta Harriet Ross, known as Harriet Tubman was born in Dorchester County,Maryland. In the year 1822 the exact day is unknown because of the circumstances she was born in.

She was born to slave Harriet “Rit” Green, who was owned by Mary Pattison Brodess, and Ben Ross, who was owned by Anthony Thompson. Her parents met because their two owners married.

As a child Harriet went through many challenging things.Three of her sisters were sold to plantations tearing apart her family.Later on their owners tried to sell her youngest brother but their mother resisted and it did not happen.By doing that Harriet's mother was a strong role model for her to look up to.
Throughout her life she experienced physical abuse starting as a child there were times when she could get struck 5 times before breakfast. There was a sever accident that happened to her when she refused to stop a runaway slave. The slave's owner threw a two pound weight that struck her in the head and causes her to experience seizures, severe headaches and narcoleptic episodes for the rest of her life. There was also times when she was in "dream states" which she called religious experiences.
In 1849, following a bout of illness and the death of her owner, Harriet Tubman decided to escape slavery in Maryland for Philadelphia. She feared that her family would be further separated and was concerned for her own fate as a sickly slave of low economic value.
Her two brothers had escaped with her but whenever rewards went up for them they decided to return to the plantation.
Instead of remaining in the safety of the North, Tubman made it her mission to rescue her family and others living in slavery through the Underground Railroad.
