Computer Network: a set of computers connected together for the purpose of sharing resources.

Node: a point of intersection/connection within a network.

Media Access Control (MAC): a sub-layer of the data link layer (DLL) in the seven-layer OSI network reference model.

IP Address: a logical numeric address that is assigned to every single computer, printer, switch, router or any other device that is part of a TCP/IP-based network.

Tree Topology: a special type of structure in which many connected elements are arranged like the branches of a tree.

Protocol: the special set of rules that end points in a telecommunication connection use when they communicate.

Peer-Peer Architecture: a commonly used computer networking architecture in which each workstation, or node, has the same capabilities and responsibilities.

Client/Server Architecture: a computing model in which the server hosts, delivers and manages most of the resources and services to be consumed by the client.

Network Routers: a networking device that forwards data packets between computer networks.

Switches/Switching Hub: a computer networking device that connects devices together on a computer network by using packet switching to receive, process, and forward data to the destination device.
