Mikhail Gorbachev made two different words to help the soviet union which were Perestroika and glasnost.

Perestroika- Restructuring of the economy or making the econmy better.

Glasnost- Encouraging people to speak freely about the government

Mikhail's plan didn't turn out how he wanted it though. With Perestroika the economy failed. A new plan was put into place to fix it but the republics had greater control over their economies.
