Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809, in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Lincoln grew up on a log cabin. His father was Thomas Lincoln (1778-1851) and his mother was Nancy Lincoln (1784-1818). Lincoln was a child of 3 children, including him. There was Sarah L. Grigsby (1807-1828) and Thomas Lincoln Jr. (1812-1812).








EARLY LIFE
Lincoln cut down trees for his family back at the cabin. Lincoln was tired.











EDUCATION
Lincoln mostly educated himself. He mostly wrote poetry, read, write, and scribble, at least, that was what his neighbors called him; lazy.


LINCOLN FAMILY MARY TODD LINCOLN
MARRIAGE AND CHILDREN
Lincoln married Mary Todd Lincoln on November 4, 1842. Their first child, Robert Todd Lincoln, was born on August 1, 1843. Their second child, Edward Baker Lincoln, was born on March 10, 1846. Their third child, William Wallace Lincoln, was born on December 21, 1850. Finally, their last and fourth child, Tad Lincoln, was born on April 4, 1853.
ELECTION OF 1860
Lincoln ran for President of the United States in 1860. His opponent was John C. Breckinridge. Lincoln's running mate was Hannibal Hamlin. Breckinridge's running mate was Joseph Lane. Lincoln won by 108 votes. There was also John Bell and Stephen A. Douglass.

CIVIL WAR
The Civil War started on April 12, 1861, a month and 8 days after Lincoln took office as the 16th President.
EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION
On September 22, 1862, the Emancipation Proclamation was written. It was finished on New Years Day, January 1, 1863.
