Shalom friends my name is Rabbi Jeff. Today I will be teaching you about a very old holiday called Shavuot.

On Shavuot we celebrate when we got the Torah from God. We are accepting Gods gift.

Shavuot means weeks. The shoresh of Shavuot שבע which means 7. Seven is a important number because there are 7 weeks between Passover and Shavuot which is called the Omer. A shoresh is the root of the word.

On Shavuot we stay up all night and read Torah and megilat rut.

On Shavuot we eat a lot and when I say a lot I mean a ton of dairy. I guess that is why I am so fat.

Shavuot has a lot of names.
