Once upon a time, in the deep blue sea, there lived 

a mermaid named Star. But she was no ordinary 

mermaid.

Star was special. Some even said she was peculiar. 

You see, Star liked spending more time out of the 

water than in the water. And a lot of her 

merfriends just didn't understand. 

While other merpeople were busy doing merpeople 

things, Star was dreaming of flying to the stars. 

"Why can't I reach the stars?" she cried out as she 

jumped high out of the water trying to touch the 

sun. 

Meanwhile, down at the bottom of the ocean her 

sea creature friends were discussing Star.

"Do you think Star doesn't like us? She never 

wants to play with us?" wondered Ollie Octopus.

"Hmmmm," grumbled Sherman Shark. "That's a 

very good question, Ollie." 

"I know! I know!" said Crawford Crab. "It's not us! 

I do know why Star doesn't want to play."

"Well, tell us, Crawford," pleaded Sherman Shark. 

"Tell him what, Crawford?" asked Star as she 

swam up to them. "I do hope it is a story about the 

stars. I love stories about the stars." 

"Well, uh, well.." stammered Crawford Crab. 

"Let me," said Sherman, "Ollie was just wondering 

why you don't like to play with us, and Crawford, 

here, said he knew why."

"Oh, really?" Star made a confused face.

"And what did Crawford have to say?" she asked. 

"We don't know because you just swam up," 

explained Sherman Shark.
