Once upon a time, there lived a family of butterflies. Stella, the youngest, was still a caterpillar. It was Stella's last day of school before summer. By the next school year, she would become a butterfly like the rest of her family.

"By next school year, you will all be butterflies! Over the summer, you will cocoon and transform," Stella's teacher announced.
This was a thought that scared the little caterpillars. "I like being a caterpillar," Stella thought. "I don't want to change."

The day was finally over. The caterpillars were glad to leave school behind. Stella happily started heading home with her friends.

Stella got home soon after. She sat down with her family for dinner. "Hi Stella," her mom said. "What did you do at school today?"
"Well," Stella said quietly, "the teacher told us that we will become butterflies soon."
Stella's family smiled, but Stella was upset.

"What's wrong?" her father asked. "Don't you want to be a butterfly?"
Stella told her family that she did not want to become a butterfly, and she was scared to be in a cocoon alone.

Her sister lifted her wings for Stella to see. She said, "Stella, you won't have beautiful purple wings like mine if you aren't a butterfly. Don't you want to fly?"
Then, Stella thought that being in a cocoon might not be so bad.
