Once upon a time a monkey named Alfred went to the trees to get himself some bananas. When he got there, he tried to climb one of the trees.

He pulled himself up through the branches to get to the top. When he tried to use his tail, it couldn’t reach the next branch. He continued to struggle.

He then heard the voice of Vlad, the fox. "Hey there Alfred, having a little trouble?" said Vlad in an unkind tone.

Alfred was startled and accidentally let go of the branch. He tried to catch himself, but his tail was too short. It was too late. Alfred fell out of the tree, and the next thing he knew he was on the ground.

Vlad laughed and decided he wanted to show off his tail by climbing the tree. "Watch this," said Vlad as he ran towards it. He jumped up onto a branch and then to the one above it.

He grabbed a bundle of bananas and yelled, "Maybe if your tail wasn't so short and you were a normal monkey, you could get these bananas!"

Then Vlad turned around and yelped. He was too afraid to get down. Alfred wondered if he should help Vlad or let him stay there until somebody else helped him.

He could not decide, so he went to Morgan, the giant African land snail that owned a banana shop.
