Chapter 1: Government
Government is institution with the power to make and enforce rules for a group of people
State is a political unit
Citizens are members of a particular state
Sovereignty is the authority that a government has over its citizens
History of the Magna Carta
In 1215 the barons rebelled and pressured the king into signing the Magna Carta, a list of 63 clauses drawn up to limit John's power. It was the first time royal authority officially became subject to the law, instead of reigning above it.
Chapter 2: Exploration
Europeans went to go explore for a lot of reasons .
Explorers and other nations was wanting glory and adventure. The main reason for exploration was for trading. They all wanted to get rich and wealthy. The improvements with their technology helped them go further with the exploration. The main goal was to see the route to Asia, but that changed once new territories were discovered.
Portugal and Spain
Trade was the most important to Portugal. They were very little settled and colonized. Portugal was the first to use African slave trade. Spanish were focused on finding a new western route to Asia, then getting rich off colonies in the new world. Both Spain and Portugal were wanting to spread catholic religion throughout the world.
Christopher Columbus was credited with discovery of the New world. He was an Italian explorer, navigator, and colonizer. Christopher completed four voyages across the Atlantic Ocean. He was apart of the catholic monarchs of spain. His lifetime period was 1451- May 20th 1506.

The Compass
helped them to track what direction they were traveling. By using an hourglass, they could determine how long they had been traveling. The compass was invented by the chinese.
Chapter 3: Colonization
Colonization is a process by which a central system of power dominates the surrounding land and its components.

This is were they traded and got goods
Chapter 4: Scientific Revolution
The absolute monarchy of France had controlled one of the richest and most powerful nations. The Scientific Revolution was a series of events that marked the emergence of modern science during the early modern period, when developments in mathematics, physics, astronomy, biology and chemistry. started in 1550.
Catholic Church
Catholic Church had preserved acceptance of a system of beliefs based on the teachings of the ancient Greeks and Romans which it had incorporated into religious doctrine. Most scientific teachings in the church were based on biblical theory.

was an English philosopher, statesman, scientist, jurist, orator, and author. He served both as Attorney General and as Lord Chancellor of England
Chapter 5: Enlightenment
The Enlightenment dominated the world of ideas in Europe during the 18th century. It stretched from 1685 to 1815. The period is characterized by thinkers and philosophers throughout Europe and the United States that believed that humanity could be changed and improved through science and reason.
Unlimited vs Limited Governments
Limited Government is a government that has limited powers. The Government has to obey the laws they make up for their people. In Unlimited Government there is no limits to the government's power. There is usually one dictator that makes all the laws and that has all the power.
John Locke
John Locke was another prominent Western philosopher who conceptualized rights as natural and inalienable. Like Hobbes, Locke believed in a natural right to life, liberty, and property.
It was a volatile time marked by art, scientific discoveries, reformation, essays, and poetry. It begun with the American War for Independence and ended with a bang when the French Revolution shook the world, causing many to question whether ideas and pure reason were at all safe or beneficial for society.

The American Revolution was a colonial revolt that took place between 1765 and 1783. The American Patriots in the Thirteen Colonies won independence from Great Britain, becoming the United States of America.
Chapter 6: American Revolution
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre, known as the Incident on King Street by the British, was an incident on March 5, 1770, in which British Army soldiers shot and killed several people while under attack by a mob.
Chapter 7: French Revolution and Napoleon
was a period of far-reaching social and political upheaval in France and its colonies that lasted from 1789 until 1799. It was partially carried forward by Napoleon during the later expansion of the French Empire.
Reign of Terror
bloodshed, in particular Reign of Terror, the period of the Terror during the French Revolution. A lot of people were in fear at this time period.
Napoleon
was a French military leader and emperor who conquered much of Europe in the early 19th century. Born on the island of Corsica, Napoleon rapidly rose through the ranks of the military during the French Revolution (1789-1799). After seizing political power in France in a 1799 coup d’état, he crowned himself emperor in 1804.
chapter 8: Latin Americans revolutions
The Latin American wars of independence were the revolutions that took place during the late 18th and early 19th centuries and resulted in the creation of a number of independent countries in Latin America.
Chapter 9: Industrial Revolution
the Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing processes in the period from about 1760 to sometime between 1820 and 1840.
Culture
the Industrial Revolution brought significant social changes. Industrialization resulted in an increase in population and the phenomenon of urbanization, as a growing number of people moved to urban centres in search of employment.
New inventions
The Cotton Gin was invented, this easily separates cotton fibers from their seeds, enabling much greater productivity than manual cotton separation.
