Baxter the bunny was filled with anxiety as his
mother hopped him to school. "But what if they
don't like me?" Baxter fretted. "What's not to
like?" his mother said in an urbane tone.

It was Baxter's first day at his new school in
Hopville. Making friends was the only things
on his mind. The problem was, making friends
wasn't exactly Baxter's forte.

When he and his mother arrived to school they were greeted
by Baxter's new teacher, Miss Twinkle. "Well hello", she
said, "You must be Baxter! Go ahead and hop on into the
class!" Baxter just blushed and waved goodbye to his mother.

When Baxter saw the classroom his eyes were luminous.
At his old school the classrooms weren't nearly this big!
Little bunnies just like Baxter were hanging up their
carrots for lunch under their name tag. They were all
little dynamos.

As the bell rang, Baxter found the
process of finding his name tag
interminable so he found a seat. "Good
morning class!" Miss Twinkle Beamed.
Baxter saw quickly that his mentor's
pedagogy was energetic.

Baxter looked around the room for bunnies that might
qualify as future friends. There was a bunny with the
name "Ralph" on his name tag with a Batman notebook.
Baxter loved Batman!

Miss Twinkle gave a math lesson for the day. But Baxter
couldn't even focus, he had a friend to make! But how
would he do it? He came to the conclusion that he had to
rely on his tact.

The lunch bell rang and all the little
bunnies went bouncing out of the room.
Baxter tried to catch up to Ralph, but he
was out of the room too fast! In the
lunch room Baxter couldn't find him, so
he sat alone.

As Baxter ate his lunch, he contemplated
on his situation. "Oh, I'll never make any
friends!" Baxter mumbled. All he wanted
was a pal, but he was too afraid to talk
to any of the bunnies.

When lunch was over Baxter hopped his saddened
self back to the classroom. As he entered the door
he heard a shriek. "My notebook! Someone has
taken my notebook!" It was Ralph.

The little bunny looked so distraught. "What's
going on Ralph?" Miss Twinkle asked. "My
notebook! It's gone!" Ralph cried again. "Well
Hunter was the last one out of the room!" said
a little bunny with an accusing pointed paw.

"Hunter did you take Ralph's notebook?" asked
Miss Twinkle. "I'd never take anything!" cried
Hunter. "Well we need to get on with our
lesson." Miss Twinkle said. Ralph just let a tear
run down his cheek and capitulated.
