Starting a new school year can be scary, especially if you're starting at a school brand new to you!

It was my first day of third grade and I was very nervous about making friends because I didn't want to have to play at recess or eat my lunch alone.

I walk into the classroom and sit down. I have that nervous kind of feeling when you're in a new place by yourself.

The girl I am sitting next to also seems to look nervous, but I am too shy to say anything to her. I keep unpacking my backpack, and when I glance back up at her, I notice something crazy!

We have all the exact same school supplies- same backpack, same lunch bag, same pencil case, same everything! I start to smile and all of my nervousness is gone. We start to talk about why we picked all of our school supplies and our other interests and realize we have a lot in common!

After that, we were inseparable. We ate lunch together, we played at recess together, we went to each other's houses after school, and just a year ago, I was a bridesmaid in her wedding!

Next time you are going into a situation that takes you out of your comfort zone, embrace it! You never know what it might bring into your life.
