Tom is 8 years old. He is riding his bike to school one day, when suddenly, he falls off. Tom is hurt, but cant remembers what happens. His mom comes rushing out and believes that it has something to do with his Hippocampus the memory processing center in the brain

Toms mom drives him to the hospital where he states hes having trouble seeing perhaps he hit his Occipital lobe, the visual processing center. As Tom and his mom were walking in, she noticed that his walking was off too. Was his Cerebellum harmed as well ?

When Dr.Smith, comes in Tom is already asleep. The doctor wonders if Tom hurt his Pons, the part of the brain that controls the sleeping. Dr. Smith asks the mom if Tom has had any personality changes since he got hurt. His mom said no so Dr.Smith knew Toms Frontal Lobe, the area in charge of personality, was okay.

Unfortunately, Toms dad got into an accident on the way to the hospital. He not only had a hard time talking to the paramedics but also comprehending his words. Right away they knew that the Brochas area located in the left hemisphere was damaged due to his inability to speak, as well as his Wernicke's area because of his inability to form proper sentences.

Toms mom anxiously waited for both her husband and her son. She was hoping damage was not done to her husbands right hemisphere because he is a graphic artist and uses his creative side often for work. She was also hoping that Toms motor cortex was okay because he had a big baseball game coming up, and he needed to have complete control of the bat which his motor cortex facilitated.

WAITING ROOM

Surgeon; Dr. Jones preformed surgery on both Tom and his dad. She opened up Toms brain and ruled out damage in the Amygdala which controlled his emotions. Then she checked out Toms dads Temporal lobe because she knew he had trouble speaking. She fixed up the damage and the surgery was complete.

When the surgery was finally over, the doctors explained to Toms mom that both her husband and her son would be fine. They need to limit their physical activity and stimulus for the next few days but hopefully they will make a full recovery. They were all okay!
