Rhode Island

Roger Williams founded Rhode Island in 1790. He was a religious dissenter. He believed in religious freedom and the separation of church and state.Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island and an important American religious leader, arrives in Boston in the Massachusetts Bay Colony from England. Williams, a Puritan, worked as a teacher before serving briefly as a colorful pastor at Plymouth and then at Salem.

Interesting Fact: Rhode Island is the smallest state in size in the United States. Named for Rhode Island in Narragansett Bay

The Capital of Rhode Island is Providence. Rhode Island contains lots of islands and rivers, but it is the smallest state in the union. These rivers are used to help drain Rhode Island. Most of the area is covered in forest and is home to many animals such as rabbits, woodchucks, raccoons, skunks, opossums, red and gray squirrels, minks, and beavers.
