Hanukkah is an 8 day celebration, celebrated by Jews. It is celebrated to remember when the Jews in Jeruselum fought back against the Greeks and Syrians who destroyed their temple.

Hanukkah is sometimes called the Festival of lights. It's celebrated by lighting a menorah.

A menorah is a candelabrum (candle stick) with nine branches. There is one tall one in the middle and four on either side. The candle in the middle is called the shamash (helper). It is used to light all of the other candles and is lit every night of Hanukkah.
The Jews worked to clean their Temple and rebuild the alter.

During this time the Jews witnessed a miracle. There was only enough oil to light the menorah for one night but the flames stayed lit for eight nights.

Now, to celebrate that time, we celebrate Hanukkah for eight nights, each night lighting another candle on the menorah while saying a prayer.
