The science of human beings.
-Anthropologists are scientists who study human beings and their body.
Anthropology is more historic study meaning older and Sociology is a more present study with a nod in the future.
Anthropologists study when, where, and why humans appeared on Earth and how we've changed since.
For example, Anthropology focuses on studying tribes and colonized people, while Sociology works with urban culture.


is for Butterfly Effect
-The Butterfly Effect is making small changes at one point in time having some or major effects somewhere else in time.
-The butterfly effect can happen if you go back in time to change something.
Meteorologist, Edward Lorenz, coined the term ButterFly Effect.
The idea came to be known as the “butterfly effect” after Lorenz suggested that the flap of a butterfly's wings might ultimately cause a tornado.
Ten days before Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, he had a dream in which he attended his own funeral in the White House.


is for Culture

-Sharing food, language, clothing, tools, music, art by a group of people.
-The US is a country with diverse and different cultures.
Africa is home to anywhere from 800 to 1,500 of the worlds languages making it possibly the most linguistically diverse continent in the world.
There are over 6,000 languages spoken in the world today, many of which are spoken by fewer than a few hundred people.
In some Asian countries such as China, Korea or Japan, slurping soup loudly means that the chef did a good job .

is for Dyad

-Group of two people.
-A dyad is the smallest group, consisting of two people.
A dyad could be two close friends.
A dyad is two parents.
A dyad could be twins who have a strong bond.

is for Estate System

-The church people, the rich people, and the poor people in a community that use to exist.
-In France, people use to be separated into estate systems based on their social rank.
The Church people were the highest level in the estate system.
Many people were in the poor rank of the estate system.
People who were in the middle estate had many special privileges.

is for Folkway

-It's a common thought, feeling, or act done by a group of people in a community.
-Holding the door for someone is a folkway.
Don't push people while waiting in line.
Respect Adults.
Smile or wave at someone.

is for Gender Role

-Gender role is expecting people to act their gender like boy or girl.
-A girl is suppose to "only" play with dolls and dress up fitting her gender role.
A boy is suppose to only play with trucks and cars because it "fits" his gender role.
Working is for men and cooking is for women.
Men are suppose to be leaders not followers.

is for Hierarchy

-Hierarchy is a way of ranking things or people.
-Under the military hierarchy, a private must always follow a sergeant’s commands.
The CEO is above a director.
The King/Queen is above the Prince/Princess in royal hierarchy.
The Egyptian hierarchy was a lot like the pyramids that they built.

is for Ideal Culture

-A rule that a culture or group of people should follow.
-In ideal culture, some people believe people shouldn't fight with each other
Everyone should study and do their homework.
Become rich.
After high school you go to college.

is for Juvenile

A juvenile is a defined as a person who is not old enough to be held responsible for criminal acts.
-In most states, you have to be under 18 to be defined as a juvenile.
The United States sends to prison more of its youth than any other country in the world.
Nearly 7,000 Dallas Youth between the ages of 10 and 17 enter the juvenile justice system every year.
Young offenders who are released a second time are even more likely to end up behind bars again.

is for Kinship

-Kinship is a special bond that you can have with your family or a bond you can have outside of your family.
-Kinship system keeps unity, harmony, and cooperation in relationships.
A family can have a strong kinship with an adopted child.
Kinship acts as a watchdog of the social life.
It helps people to relate to one another more.

is for Language

-Language is the system of words or signs that people use to express thoughts and feelings to each other.
-In America, many people speak English as their main language
Chinese is the most spoken language in the world with 1.2 billion speakers including 1 billion who speak Mandarin.
One language dies about every 14 days.
About 13% of the world’s population speaks Mandarin as their first language.

is for Marriage

-Being together in a legal relationship as husband and wife.
-My parents had a marriage at 18 years old.
People in happy marriages tend to be more productive at work.
The most important things to a happy marriage is laughter, forgiveness and trust.
Marriage at a young age is a risk.

is for Nuclear Family

Nuclear family is a family made up of a husband, wife, and their children.
-A family that includes a mom, dad, and their child(ren) is a nuclear family.
A nuclear family is common in different parts of the world.
54% of Canadians live in two parent, or nuclear families.
The nuclear family was most popular in the 1950’s and 60’s.

is for Oligarchy

A small group of people having control of a country or larger group of people.
-Communist China has an oligarchy government.
Leaders in the party and armed forces control government.
Greek City States have an oligarchy government.
Russia is an example of an oligarchic structure.

A society or community where the father or oldest male is the leader of the family, community, or society.
-A patriarchy was thought to be the cultural universe.
Viking society was a patriarchy society.
Women workers are less likely to be promoted over male workers as they are thought to be more emotional, making it seem like they are not able to handle stress that might come that with that job.
In many families, the father has the last word. The word of the mother is usually not as important.
