Elsie Jo is a twelve year old girl who really enjoys playing football with her two older brothers.

She has always had a dream to play on her school's football team.

One day, she decides that she is going to ask the coach if she can join the team.

She goes to football practice, walks up to the coach, and says "I would like to join your team."

The entire football team begins to laugh at her and the coach says "You can't be a football player! You are a girl!"

Elsie Jo begins to feel very sad and can't understand why the coach would say no just because she is a girl.

At home, she tells her older brothers what the coach said to her and they also don't understand.
