The Adventures of Mr. Cracker

Hey I'm Mr. Cracker! Today I'm going through the digestive system and I'll show you what happens to me along the way. The main purpose of the digestive system is to take in food, digest it and excrete the remaining waste. Digestion is important because it bring nutrients to your body to stay healthy. Your body uses the nutrients for energy, growth, and cell repair.

The mouth is the beginning of the digestive system. This is where I'm broken down by chewing, swallowing and dissolving to make it easier to digest.

The Esophagus

The esophagus is a tube that connects the mouth to the stomach. It's a conduit for me to move from the mouth to the stomach.

The Stomach

The stomach is like a temporary storage for me. It has acid and enzymes that digest me. The muscles in the stomach contract to help with digestion.

The Small Intestine

A muscular valve called the pyloric sphincter allows me to go from the stomach into the small intestine. The main function is absorb my nutrients into the body.

The Large Intestine

Now in the large intestine, water is absorbed and the remaining waste is stored before being removed from the body.

The Liver

The liver has bile contained in the gallbladder that goes into the intestines to digest fats.
