The castles were designed and built to hold down conquered territory. They also served to intimidate and strike fear into the local people. They were places of refuge, and places for the lords to live. The castles were also impressive symbols of the power and wealth of their owners.

Religion in the Middle Ages was dominated by Christianity. During the Middle Ages, the Catholic Church was the only church in Europe and the leading roles in the government were all in the hands of the leading church leaders like bishops and archbishops. this was important because it gave stable people that they could rely on and to this day there are a still a large amount of christians.

A Cathedral is a very large and very fancy church, they had a lot of money and they would make buildings because they saw it as a was to honor their god. They were usually built in the shape of a cross with very high ceilings. Some of these cathedrals are still around today.
