The competition between Apple and Microsoft has been going on since the beginning of the companies. They've gone through many battles, but the Apple vs. Microsoft Copyright Infringement Case of 1988-1994 was one of the roughest.

INTRO

This battle began when Apple released a computer called Macintosh. This computer had gorgeous display all thanks to the GUI (graphical user interface) which Apple had copyrighted. Apple took pride in their work so as you can imagine, when Microsoft came out with Windows 1.0 they were surprised to discover many of their visual displays had been replicated.

BATTLE

Apple threatened to sue, but since the companies were so close they came to an agreement: Apple allowed the Macintosh design to be used in Windows.

FIRST ATTEMPTED SUING

To Apple's surprise, Microsoft came out with yet another update (Windows 2.0) that replicated even more of their features.

SURPRISE, SURPRISE

Somehow, Apple missed a big mistake. They allowed the Macintosh design elements to Microsoft to be used in Windows, but they didn't catch that they had also allowed it to be used in all future updates.
