Mr. Summers Tessie Bill Bill Jr. Little Dave Nancy Mr. Graves Delacroix

The first shot of the storyboard shows Bill holding "the slip", which means his family will have to draw slips again to see who is stoned. A long shot shows the crowd backing away from Bill to show that he is isolated. Then, an eye level angle and high key lighting create a neutral feeling that shows that the Lottery is a normal event for this town. Also, non-digetic sound is used for the crowd reacting to Bill's slip by whispering to create an intense mood. Lastly, a camera pan shows the crowd, the black box, and Bill, while a cut helps to make the audience feel like nothing in the story is of importance.

The second shot of the storyboard shows Bill's wife, Tessie, freaking out because her family is at risk. The closeup frame and the zoom of the camera on her face shows her terrified expression to let the reader know that she is scared for her family. The neutral feeling of the Lottery is kept with an eye level angle and a cut to the next scene. Also, the high key lighting helps create the feeling that the events are not dark. The digetic sound of Tessie screaming creates a dark mood, which contrasts with the lighting so that the audience doesn't know how to feel.

After Tessie freaks out, the next shot shows Mr. Summers preparing the five slips for Bill and his family to choose from. A medium shot with a tilt shows the leftover paper slips being carried away, the black box, and finally, Bill's family. To keep the mood suspenseful, non-digetic whispers can be heard from the crowd. Also, to keep the audience from viewing the Lottery as dark yet, the lighting stays high key and a cut to the next scene is used.

The next scene shows Bill and his family right after they draw their slips. Mr. Graves, another townsperson, holds Bill Jr.'s slip since he is so little. The shot is before they reveal who will be stoned to build more suspense. To allow you to see everyone, including the crowd, a long shot is used. The eye level and cut to the next scene keeps building the theme that the Lottery is not out of the ordinary, which is a key factor of the story. Also, the high key lighting and pan of the camera show the crowd, the black box, and Bill's family in broad daylight. Lastly, the digetic sound of Bill's family grabbing the slips from the box builds the suspense.

During this scene, a long shot shows Mr. Graves, Bill, and his kids opening their slips as the crowd stands in suspense. A high angle then gives a good view of their fearful expressions and dark mood. Afterwards, pan gives a view of the movement from Bill to Bill's kids as they stand in relief. Furthermore, the side lighting shows the evil and fright behind the tradition. Also, non-dietetic sound shows how the crowd talks in the background due the results. Lastly, the scene cuts from the group opening their slips to Tessie's reaction.
