Functions of The Endocrine System
What is the endocrine system?
The endocrine system controls the substances made. It is made up of glands that make hormones. Chemical substances are made that controls what the cell does. Hormones affect growth, metabolism, sexual development, and function of the body.
Interactions And Homeostasis
The endocrine system is linked to several other systems such as the digestive system. The blood glucose homeostasis is regulated by two hormones from the pancreas. But the liver of the digestive system makes sure there is energy in between meals. This is one of many connections between systems. Another is the nervous system, which uses neurons and hormones to provide feedback for the brain. The hormones are input into the blood by the endocrine system. When the neural impulses it is sending signals. So when the stomach is
empty there are receptors are sent to the brain to respond with discomfort in your midsection. This connection is another way homeostasis is maintained. In these cases, there are two other connections to endocrine to perform homeostasis.
Disruption of Homeostasis
When blood glucose levels aren’t regulated these have a disease named diabetes. It affects how the body regulates blood glucose levels because the body doesn’t produce enough insulin or doesn’t respond properly causing an imbalance between insulin and glucagon. The proper way it is supposed to function is by secreting by the beta-cell or a type of islet cell to level equally with each other. There is several different types of diabetes, and the symptoms vary, but these are some symptoms.
Symptoms of Diabetes Include:
- Increased thirst
- Frequent urination
- Extreme hunger
- Unexplained weight loss
- Fatigue

Treatment
Treatment for this disease includes metformin which lowers glucose production in the liver and improving your body’s sensitivity to insulin. This will help your body be more effective. There will be a need for dietary change as well as insulin medication for type two diabetes.
Plant Endocrine System
The hormones that regulate the growth of the plant are Auxins, Gibberellins, Cytokinins, and growth inhibitors primarily Abscisic Acid and Ethylene. They each perform a task that helps the plant grow. Similar to nutrients, there are chemicals for plants to help it grow, develop, and function. They carry out biochemical reactions that are required to survive. However, like the hormones insulin and estrogen for the human body, plant hormones regulate the plant body by responding to the various signals from the plant environment.
