Hi! My name is Rocky! I am a small, yet mighty, piece of the Earth's Crust. Around 2 billion years ago my family and I were first formed and we've been through a lot! Here is my story!

See that mountain range over there? That is where I was first made!

I started my journey off at the tip top of the mountain. Then over hundreds of years of rain, snow and heat, I began to chip off away from my rock family.

What is happening? The rain won't stop, and I feel like I am going to get swept away! Could it be that I am weathering?

Well Rocky, Weathering is the process in which rock is broken down in to sediment. There are three ways us rocks can be broken down.

There is Chemical, physical, and biological. Here, let me show you!

Chemical Weathering occurs when a chemical, like Oxygen, reacts with the chemicals in the rock and changes it to break it down. This usually happens in caves.

Physical Weathering ccurs when rocks break down without changing their chemical composition. This can occur when water gets trapped in a crack, freezes, then thaws.

Biological Weathering happens when something living, like plants and animals, aids in the breaking down of rocks.

Weathering is so cool! But, I wonder what will happen to me after I go through this process...
