In 1922, Lenin formed the world's first communist nation, the Soviet Union.

After Lenin's death in 1924, two well-known leaders of the communist party, Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky, fought for control of the nation.

Stalin was able to secretly gather political support.
He gathered so much support he was able to seize power.

Once he had his power and control, Stalin exiled Trotsky so that there was no threat that might be able to take his power.

Joseph Stalin wanted to industrialize the nation to help it recover from the aftereffects of World War 1.

Stalin forced all the small individual farms and farmers to join together and become one large farm where many people worked.

He called it collectivization.
