Baby bird, I think it's about time I told you about the food chain.
Baby bird and Mama bird lived together in the forest. Mama bird spends her time protecting her little one from any harm they may come across in the forest. Mama bird promised herself that one day, she would tell Baby bird all about the food chain so he too could understand it just like his mama.
The food what?
Come on, I'll show you!
I still don't understand.
Baby bird, this is what a food chain looks like.
Producer Primary Secondary Tertiary
Look Baby bird, that grass there is called a Primary Producer. This means the grass is able to makes it's own food through photosynthesis.
That's so cool! Can we make our own food through photosynthesis too?
No Baby bird, because we are not primary producers.
As Mama bird and Baby bird go off on their adventure to learn about The Food Chain, they start off in an area full of grass and plants.
Look Baby bird, that grasshopper there is called a Primary Consumer. This means the grasshopper eats the grass which makes them a herbivore.
Mama bird and Baby bird continue on their adventure until Mama bird spots a grasshopper eating some grass.
Baby bird, do you see all those birds?
Wow, I can't believe it. I'm a secondary consumer? That's so cool!
Well Baby bird, birds are Secondary Consumers. This means they can be carnivores or omnivores.
While on the adventure, Baby bird even learned where he fits in on the food chain!
During the adventure, Baby bird became curious and had many questions to ask his Mama, about the food chain.
Mama bird, why is the food chain so important?
Baby bird, all life including plants and animals, all depend on each other to continue the natural cycle of life!
On their last stop, Mama bird and Baby bird spotted an owl resting on a tree branch
Baby bird, that owl right there is known as a Tertiary Consumer. Tertiary consumers are known to be carnivores and are at the top of the food chain!
Wow, that's scary but very cool!
As the sun started to set, Mama bird decided she did her very best to teach Baby bird all about the food chain and with that, they went home.
Now, that's all you need to know about the food chain. I think it's almost your bed time now Baby bird so let's go home now.
Okay Mama, today was fun!
