"I can't wait to see see all the sea animals at the beach today!" exclaimed Sally. "Did you pack all the snacks for our picnic?" Mom asked, "Yes now come on Mom we don't want to miss the sea turtles!"

Sally and her mother finally made it to the beach and began to play in the sand. After playing in the sand and having their picnic Sally asked, "Mom can we go in the water i want to look at the turtles and different types of fish?"

While swimming through the water Sally began to notice there weren't as many fish or sea turtles as last year and even worse there was trash in the water!

"Mom did you see there were no turtles or pretty colored fish?!" exclaimed Sally, "Yes it seems like the turtles aren't there this year," replied Mom, " and there were quite a few pieces of trash down there." "What happened to the sea animals?" wondered Sally.

"Well sweety," Mom began, "there's a thing called biodiversity and biodiversity loss." "Biodiversity?" questioned Sally. "Yes" replied Mom, "biodiversity is the different types of life in the world or certain place and biodiversity loss is when the species that live there are no longer there ."

"If it's where they live then why wouldn't they be there anymore?" asked Sally. "Well there are many different reasons for that Sally." said Mom

"One of the greatest types biodiversity loss is habitat destruction." said Mom. "What's that?" questioned Sally. "That's when the homes of animals get destroyed from tearing down their homes for construction. The construction can be for mining, new developments, and other things." explained Mom.
