She was born in Sofia, Bulgaria into a family of renowned Bulgarian musicians. Her grandfather Sasha Popov was a violinist and conductor and the founder of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. Her mother Valerie Popova was an internationally acclaimed soprano who sung regularly at La Scala in Milan from. She studied piano from early childhood and graduated from Bulgaria's National School of Music.Since 1989 she has sung in many of the most prestigious opera houses around the world, including those in Vienna, Paris, Berlin, New York , Rome, Brussels, Washington, Hamburg, Moscow, Turin and many more.

Bulgarian opera singer Boris Hristov - bass. In 1975, he was awarded the title of People's Artist.
As an opera singer, Boris Hristov is known for his performances in the Italian and Russian repertoires. His most famous parties include Boris and Dosifei, Philip II, Mephistopheles, Ivan Susanin, Moses.
An important place in the performer's repertoire was occupied by chamber lyrics of famous Russian composers - Glinka, Borodin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov.

Georgi Cherkin was born in Sofiain a family with great music tradition. The successful Bulgarian pianist and song writer started playing the piano and composing at the age of six. He he was admitted to the Pancho Vladiguerov State Music Academy in Sofia in prof. Atanas Kurtev's class. A year later, he was also admitted at the prestigious Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he was trained by one of the most renowned music professors in Italy, Sergio Perticaroli, graduating cum laude.

is for Dobri Hristov

Dobri Hristov was one of the major Bulgarian composers of the 20th century. He wrote mainly choral music as well as some church music and music for the orchestra. He graduated from the Prague conservatory in 1903.He returned to Bulgaria and helped with the development of Bulgarian music culture, using lots of Bulgarian folklore elements in his compositions. He was conductor of "The Seven Saints'ensamble"and choir in the church of the same name in Sofia.

Emil Tabakov is well known worldwide as a guest conductor worldwide. Tabakov’s repertoire is enormous, showing a variety of styles from classical and romantic to contemporary genres.He is the holder of prestigious national music awards like Musician of the Year of the Bulgarian National Radio in 1992, "Crystal Lyre" (2009) Union of Musicians in Bulgaria. He was nominated for Man of the Year (1992) by the International Bibliographic Centre in Cambridge. He was ranked among the 100 best professionals for 2012 by the International Biographical Centre, England.

is for Ghena Dimitrova


Ghena Dimitrova was a Bulgarian soprano. Her voice was known for its power and extension. Her breakthrough came in 1967. She won the Sofia International Singing Competition in 1970, the prize including a course of study at La Scala's Scuola di Perfezionamento. She made her Italian debut as Turandot in Treviso in 1975. Her debut in the United States was in 1981. After retiring from the stage in 2001, Dimitrova remained active working with young singers. Dimitrova died in Milan on 11 June 2005. After her death the Bulgarian Government promised to establish a fund in her name for promising young singers. Dimitrova Peak in Antarctica is named after Ghena Dimitrova.

is for Lubomir Pipkov

Lubomir Pipkov is a Bulgarian composer. He creates in almost every type of music. He made his first musical attempts in 1918. He studied at the Piano Music School in Sofia. He left for Paris and graduated with honors and awards. He has wrote operas, symphonies, choral and solo songs, instrumental and chamber music and more. He returned to Bulgaria and worked as an opera director. He has performed in the Czech Republic, Poland, Yugoslavia and more. He is founder of "Music" Magazine. He has won many awards and is an honorary citizen of his hometown - Lovech.

is for Marin Goleminov

Marin was born in 1908. He is a Bulgarian composer, music critic, conductor, educator and public figure, academician, winner of many awards. He took music theory lessons. In 1927 he enrolled in the State Music Academy in Sofia, where he studied violin and chamber music. He studied composition in Paris. After his returning in Bulgaria, he became a musical teacher in Sofia. He specialized in Germany. He created dance dramas, symphonies, chamber music and more. He developed active music-pedagogical activity. He was a rector of the Bulgarian State Conservatory and director of the Opera in Sofia. He was a representative of Bulgaria in the Composer's Tribune at UNESCO. He died in 2000 in Portugal.

is for Nicola Ghiuselev

Nicola Ghiuselev was a Bulgarian operatic bass. He studied painting
at the Academy of Arts in Sofia, and later voice at the school of the National Opera of Sofia. He made his stage debut in Turandot in 1960. Important debuts followed at the Berlin State Opera, La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera, the Monte Carlo Opera, the Palais Garnier in Paris, the Liceo in Barcelona, the San Carlo n Naples, the Royal Opera House in London, the Verona Arena, the Salzburg Festival, the Holland Festival, he also appeared in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Prague, Budapest, Warsaw, Marseille, Toulouse, Chicago, Houston, among others. He died on 16 May 2014, aged 77. Mount Ghiuselev on Brabant Island, Antarctica is named after Nicola Ghiuselev.

is for Pancho Vladigerov

Pancho Vladigerov was a composer, musician, conductor, educator and publicist of Bulgarian-Jewish origin, who was born in 1899. He spent his childhood in Shumen and started his musical education in Sofia. He continued it in Berlin, he played piano and violin. Vladigerov won the Mendelssohn twice as a composer. He performed in Germany, France and Bulgaria. He wrote the first Bulgarian symphonic work which gained wide international fame. Vladigerov also wrote many vocal-instrumental works of high artistic value. He died in at age 79 in Sofia. He was awarded with the Dimitrov Prize for his merits to Bulgarian music.
