Michigan State men's basketball team has had a 

long history with a rich tradition. MSU has won 

two NCAA championships and 13 Big Ten 

championships in men's basketball. In 1979 and 

2000 the Spartans won National Championships.

(The 1979 the match was much anticipated 

because of Johnson Vs Bird)

The Michigan State Spartans men's basketball 

team represents Michigan State University 

(MSU) Michigan State is part of the Big Ten 

Conference Which is Division 1 balling. The 

team plays at Breslin Student Event Center. 

Tom Izzo has been MSU's head coach from 

1995 to the present day. He has led MSU to 7 

Conference Championships plus many Final 

Four appearances.

    Michigan State's March Madness Success 

has been limited. They have appeared in the 

Tourney 25 times. And have Only won twice. 

Once in 1979 and again in 2000. Michigan 

State has come in 2nd once, 3rd twice and 4th 

three times. (MSU have made it to the elite 

eight on three additional occasions. Bringing 

the total to 11)

The top 3 coaches for MSU are 

Forrest A. Anderson who led Michigan State to its first 

Final Four and NCAA appearance in 1957 he had 2 NCAA 

Appearances and   2 Conference Championships

Jud Heathcote guided MSU to a 1979 NCAA 

Championship. He also had 9 NCAA Appearances, and 

won 3 Conference Championships

Tom Izzo is probably the Spartans best coach yet. Tom 

Izzo has led the spartans to 6 Final Four appearances  

More Final Four appearances than any other coach in the 

history of MSU. He has also gone to 15 consecutive 

NCAA Tourney appearances.

MSU's Top 9 Players are Greg Kelser, Scott 

Skiles, Morris Peterson, Steve Smith, Mateen 

Cleaves, Johnny Green, Jay Vincent, Shawn 

Respert,   and of course we cant live out Magic 

Johnson.

This year is a very promising year for the 

Spartans. They are 14-3 and it doesn't look 

like they will be stopping anytime soon. MSU 

has never really been a stand out team in the 

past. But with Tom Izzo as the head coach 

MSU have a very promising future ahead.
