Abraham Lincoln was the 

president at the time of the 

Civil War. He guided the 

country through the war. The 

war started in 1861 and ended 

in 1865. Lincoln didn't 

appreciate the fact that black 

people were slaves. 

It all started in 1861 , Abraham 

Lincoln wasn't satisfied with the 

fact that black people were held as 

slaves. He wanted to change the 

way things were going too. So he 

became president. During that 

time, he wrote the Emancipation 

Proclamation. Alot of people didn't 

care for Abraham, after they found 

out he tried to free slaves.

One day Abraham had ran into an old buddy 

from his high school years John Wilkes 

Booth. As they started talking, John notice 

he was the president. John had heard 

somethings about him but didnt know 

exactly who the president was. Well come 

to find out, John didnt like the president 

because he had heard that he was trying to 

free the black slaves, and John wanted the 

coloreds to be slaves. So after they 

discussed that, they began to fuss and were 

no longer friends. 

As months went by, Abraham 

met and later married Mary Todd 

Lincoln. She was born on 

December 13, 1818. Todd 

married Abraham Lincoln on 

November 4, 1842, at her sister 

Elizabeth's home in Springfield. 

She was 23 and he was 33. She 

was the First Lady Of The United 

States.
