A drought is defined by a long period of time without rain, often causing a lack of water.

Preparation: conserve water, don't over fertilize your plants, limit appliance use
is for Earthquake

Earthquakes occur when tectonic plates collide, which create shock waves.
Preparation: Practice "drop, cover, and roll," secure heavy items in your home

is for Flood

A flood occurs when a body of water overflows onto land, usually at a fast pace.

Preparation: Move to higher ground, follow "turn around, don't drown" rule, first-aid kit
is for Global Climate Change

Global Climate Change occurs when changes in Earths climate causes new weather patterns for an long period of time

Prevention: reduce waste, conserve water, travel green, clean energy, advocate
is for Hurricane

A hurricane is a large rotating storm with high speed winds that form over warm waters in tropical areas

Preparation: make emergency kit, find evacuation areas, board up windows, secure doors, listen to the radio or television cast
is for Ice Storm

In contrast to a blizzard, this winter storm leaves a heavy coating of ice, creating dangerous driving and outdoor conditions.

Preparation: salt your driveway, keep a backup generator, stay indoors, stock up on blankets and warm clothing
is for Hurricane Joaquin

Hurricane Joaquin was a category 4 tropical storm that hit the Carribean Islands in 2015, causing millions of dollars in damages.

Fun Fact: During the tropical storm, winds hit 155 miles per hour!

Hurricane Katrina was a category 5 hurricane that hit the United States in 2005. This was the most costly natural disaster in America's history.
Refuge during the storm: many people found shelter at the Louisana Super Dome football stadium.

Lightning usually occurs during thunderstorms and cause great damage if it strikes an object or area.
Lightning fact: Even if someone is not directly stricken, a ground current of electricity can cause them to experience the same effects.

is for Mudslide

Like an avalanche, a mudslide is when a mass amount of Earth material tumbles down the side of the mountain. However, mud is the material that causes destruction.

Preparation: Have an evacuation plan, make emergency supply kit
is for Winter Storm Nadia

Winter Storm Nadia hit the western United States in 2019 and extended its path all the way across the United States.

Effects of storm: Many evacuations, mudslides, crashes. road closures, and power outages occurred as a result of the winter storm.
is for Oceanic Tsunami

Tsunamis are a series of large waves that are causes by underwater earthquakes or volcanic eruptions.

Preparation: Make a plan to escape to inland high ground, have an emergency supply kit

A pandemic is a fatal disease that is spread over a large region (often times the world).
